While the official founding of the Caledonia Curling Club in Grand Forks, ND was February 14, 1914, records of the game in northeastern North Dakota date back to the 1880s. By the 1920s club membership (well over 100) stabilized with notable curlers emerging (Joe Bach, A. Jensen, P.H. Mulloy, and I.R. Thompson). Yet by the 1930s as the national economy struggled, the Caledonia Club did also and finally closed in 1935. Not until March, 1954 did the Grand Forks Curling Club officially formalize and assisted the city in hosting a bonspiel featuring 52 rinks from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Manitoba. In 1960, at the current location of 12th Street and 7th Avenue South on a new four sheet artificial ice, the Club hosted the 5th U.S. Men’s National Curling Championship. Since that time, the Grand Forks Curling Club has hosted multiple National and World events in addition to the Scot Touring Team and the Transoceanic Curling Match.
